About Us
Jaclyn and Adam have been married since 2009. They have two sons, Ryder and Maddox. As parents, a pediatrician (Jaclyn), and educator (Adam), they would often introduce themselves as both being in the “kid business.”
Over the years, friends and family would often approach them with questions about their children, with many answers benefitting from the input of not just a medical professional, but also an educational one as well. The health of children encompasses much more than just overall physical health; mental health and educational well-being also play an important role. These encounters evolved into a podcast they created called EdMed Talks (short for Education and Medicine), where they discussed common parenting questions from not only the medical and educational perspective, but from being parents themselves.
Jaclyn was exploring ways to practice medicine how she always envisioned – with time, convenience, and individualization.
Simultaneous to all of this, Jaclyn was exploring ways to practice medicine how she always envisioned – with time, convenience, and individualization. She realized the current insurance-based model wasn’t the best way to practice medicine, as it encourages quick visits, large patient panels, and forces doctors to spend their time on metrics and documentation. She realized that medical care could be much more convenient for families with phone calls to evening visits, avoiding trips to the ED. There were also many education questions where she’d say, “I wish Adam were here. He’d answer that easily.”
She learned about Direct Pediatric Care (DPC), a structure that allows for all of those desired elements. While the DPC model is growing and is taking root in cities across the country, Jaclyn saw the chance to enhance patient care further by bringing in Adam’s educational expertise to the model as well.
With that Joyful Pediatrics was born, a place where your child receives thoughtful, personalized care and parents have direct anytime access to Drs. Dovico for all of their medical and educational questions.
